noticed rpms were at 4500 and had my buddie pump bulb and it went flat on him after a few minutes wot rpms went up to 5800 where it should be. thinking flat primer is related to low rpms and rough idle when cold started. what would cause primer to go flat was thinking new primer and new siphoner on gas tank.

Re: primer bulb went flat

Think of your primer ball as a poor mans vacuum gauge. If it goes flat, its telling you there is a restriction between the tank and the fuel pump:

-vent may be plugged (try running with filler cap loosened)
-inline filter/water trap plugging up (if so equipted)
-line from primer to tank kinked or collapsed
-bad anti-syphon valve at tank (if so equipted)
-restricted tank screen (if so equipted)

Just had the same issue with my 1996 150 HP Evinrude. Changed the fuel water seperater and the anti syphon valve and it was good to go. The issue is not the engine but the boat although my engine alarm kept going off(fuel restriction/ temp alarm).Great feature on this engine.

Re: primer bulb went flat

the reason the rpms pickup up, is the motor was running lean, low fuel/oil to air mixture, good way to ruin a engine.
