Once the primer bulb is squeezed to hard, should it always remain so during normal engine operatioins?

Re: primer bulb

No. It should become soft after the fuel pump takes over moving the fuel.

Re: primer bulb

Last year I finally installed a water separator and am very glad I did. It seems that with that installed, the motor is always pretty much primed as far a fuel goes, I rarely need to pump the bulb anymore. Do you have a water separator installed?

Yes, I have a 10 micron water separator. I have the bulb installed in the fuel line between the built in fuel tank and the separator. Is this correct position or does it matter?

Better after filter, gives visual indication (collapse) of filter failure.:D

Also, if it won't suck a filter full of fuel, the primer bulb needs replacing.

Re: primer bulb

I am going to install a separator in my system. From what I've read, it should go between tank and primer bulb, because if you put the primer bulb before the separator the agitation of the primer bulb can temporarily emulsify the water/ethanol/gas and make the separator unable to do its job.

I prefer this sequence: Tank > water separating filter > primer bulb > fuel pump. That way any contamination is removed before it gets to the primer or the fuel pump.

I have mine the same way as JB....that way, the bulb is just before the motor so you can squeeze fuel directly into the carbs......
