Primer bypass solenoid troubleshooting

I have a 1993 evinrude 200xp and having trouble with it not starting without flipping the red lever on my bypass solenoid. I have replaced the solenoid thinking that was the problem, but it apparently wasn’t. I’ve followed the wire from the solenoid back to the power head and it seems fine. I would like to know what I should check next. Maybe from the most common problems to the least. Could it be in the ignition switch?

When you push the key in the primer valve should CLICK.-------And the key is to be pushed in and held in while cranking the motor over.-----The primer is a valve and it is not a pump.

So it starts if you turn the lever perpendicular to the body of the solenoid but not when it's parallel? Are you pressing in on the key when you start the motor? You should hear the solenoid click when you press the key in.

Yes on key being held in. If the solenoid doesn’t click where would I next look? Battery is good.

Ignition switch may be faulty or wire is not connected properly.----Wire might be cut somewhere.-----The primer may not sound a loud click , depends on your hearing.
