Anyone have a specific rec for a primer for an engine block? It's out of the boat, still mostly dressed. It's been degreased best I can, rust wire wheeled and soda blasted. Most places are not bare metal. Need something that I can pick up at a big box store or FLAPS. Brief look couldn't find a high heat self etching primer

I've never painted a block, can't recommend a specific product. I can tell you that self/acid etch primer has been replaced by direct to metal primers. No acid. So just look for something compatible with bare metal.

Pass a torch over the area you intend to paint before hand. Helps a lot. Most of the high temp paints I've used say to not use primer.

Regular Rust-Oleum would be fine.

The FLAPS should have engine primer should you want engine paint
