primer hose routing

Hey everyone I have a johnson 200 hp 1979,Now the gas hoses from the primer solenoid on my motor are going into the bypass covers not the bottom of the carbs,on a diagram from here it shows them going to the carbs, can any body tell me if it makes a difference?I would think they have to go to the carbs .

The gas is directly injected into the intake not the carbs. It is common for that set up.

if i disconnect these hoses and work the primer solenoid how strong of a stream should it shoot,right now it just drips

I honestly do not know...... I never tried that. What is the position of the red handle on the solenoid? It should be over the top of the unit and for manual starting you rotate it 180 degrees.

over the top?I thought it went facing away from the boat in line with the solenoid body

In the early days of the primer system they put fuel into the by-pass area. Later they found that it was better to shoot fuel in the intake (got the reeds wet sooner). You can convert your carbs so it'll squirt into the intake. You'll have to install the nipple in the top of each carb, use the carb gasket with a hole for the fuel and plug the by-pass nipple. If your intake manifold doesn't have a slot for the fuel you'll have to cut one. No big deal to convert and I think you'll like it better.

dhadley do you know where i can get some more info on this and also can i just get the nipples at the marine supply,also just cap all 6 bypass nipples.is this what you mean, i do have the cutouts on the manifold.
