HP office jet 5610, intermitent printing.

Sometimes it works fine, other times it spits out a letter on paper every 10-15 seconds.
We did a reinstall of the software, same old stuff though.

Any ideas?

What OS?
How is it hooked up? USB?
Did you download the latest driver from HP?
Is it a shared printer?
Try it from another computer?
yada yada yada :)

Re: Printer issues??

Bruce gives a good list to use. I have had low mileage inkjet printers go whacko with no explanation or resolution. In fact I am using one now. I can no longer fax from the printer keyboard. It will only fax when I use the software on the computer it is hooked to.

That being said, drivers can be important. I also use an HP 2100 laserjet printer. It took to doing goofy things like running page after page of garbage. As I use this printer for my business program I contacted a printer repair business. He told me that subsequent XP updates most likely interfered with the drivers. He suggested that I revert to an earlier driver for the printer series. I did it and all the goofiness ceased.

Re: Printer issues??

rbh,

you said you did a reinstall, did you uninstall before you reinstalled? If not, you need to uninstall the old before you reinstall the new, I have found a few quirks in windows with trying to reinstall over the old software, especially with windows 7, the registry works a bit different in windows 7. normally what I do, is uninstall the printer and make sure the drivers are gone, this will update the registry, then plug the printer back in and let 7 bring up the window to install the printer. Microsoft is housing a massive amount of drivers that are updated with out telling us.

This is a old trick that used to help . Unplug it then hit the power button to turn it on it clears the memory then plug it back in.

Re: Printer issues??

So after going through the list of ailments that happen for this unit, we figured out the power supply cr#pped out.

So into the trash with the old and hello new HP office jet pro 8600.
Lots of bells and whistles to learn about.

Arrow and hourglass, arrow/curser has the hour glass icon popping up every couple of seconds, is the computer hunting for something?
