I just bought one of these to replace my new(trashed) aluminum prop. I took it out for 2 hours and was really impressed with it. Just wondering if anyone else has one, and what do you think of it.

By the way, the splines have a little bit of play, and was wondering if that's normal.

Re: Pro Pulse propeller

Chris,

I posted on this topic earlier and no one had any experience with them. What kind of boat/engine do you have. How was the hole shot and top end compared to your other prop. Also what size of prop did you re-place.

thanks

Re: Pro Pulse propeller

I have a 5.0 (302) Volvo with SX outdrive on a 20' bow rider. The first prop on the boat was a 14 x 17 which revved it over 5 grand (not good) so I bought a 14 x 19 and it dropped it down to 4800 (still not good).

Holeshot...if there is such a thing with this boat...was much quicker with the 4 blade at 20" than the 19" 3 blade. I think plane was achieved at about 3 seconds or less with just me driving.

I wasn't able to get a good top speed due to water conditions, but I did see about 45 at 4500 before having to cut back because of the waves. Torque is much better as well, even throwing me back in the seat some.

After 2.5 hours of testing there was absolutely no wear on the prop. No nicks, dings...nothing. I could put this right back on the shelf if I wanted to.

The free play in the splines still has me concerned however, and I emailed the company for some answers.

Re: Pro Pulse propeller

Pro Pulse in Sweden contacted me today. They said the freeplay is normal and will not affect operation. Apparently some outdrive shafts are tighter than others...

Re: Pro Pulse propeller

I took it out again today for about 6 hours. The pitch was reset back to about 19 to see if torque would increase (it didn't) and my top end really suffered, only achieving 40mph with a 5.0 190hp motor. Hmm. Back to 21.

The prop did suffer a couple dings this time, chips on the leading edges of the blades. I don't think it really made any difference running though.

Re: Pro Pulse propeller

What's it take to change the blades on this type of prop? Are the blades aluminum, composite, or stainless steel?

Doug:

Get your own thread.... HA HA just kidding...
Near as I can tell this is a composite 4 blade prop.. All you do is lossen some bolts and the adjust the blades.... Retighten and off you go.

Pitch can be 14,5” x 15-21”... I dont know if that 21 is good enough for me.....

Tallman

Re: Pro Pulse propeller

Yeah, they're 'composite' as stated by the company. I'd call it a carbon-polymer of sorts. When you tap it, it sounds like metal (very hard).

I had it running at 21 pitch last outing but that just dropped my rpm's down to about 3800, definitely not in the WOT range of 4500. It seems happiest at about 19.

Looking back now, after all I've heard about stainless I would just save the $$$ and get one of those with the separate hub instead of the ProPulse. The composite blades really do seem to be rather fragile...about the same as aluminum anyway. I run on the Potomac which is *full* of crap, so SS would be much better.
