Lay it down on its back. This position is the most stable. Secure it so that it cannot move/fall. Transporting does no harm to any internal or other parts of the engine.

2 stroke or 4 stroke?

Only issue with a 4 stroke is oil running to where it shouldn't be. Drain it.

2 stroke there is no issue. Your carbs may spill fuel but it will evaporate pretty quick.

If it has just come out of the water there still may be water in the lower unit, in the pump so make sure the LU is always lower than the powerhead so it does not flow up to the engine. Turning the engine over a few times when vertical helps empty the water pump out.

You've probably already done this but be sure to remove the prop first.

You can lay it on it's side. I've transported a 225 over 300 miles and then it sat in the back of my truck a couple of months until I installed it.

Depending on how you get it up into your truck, put the cowling back on and lock it down to support the lower pan.

My 150 was bolted to a pallet laying down, the tilt/trim got an air pocket in the cylinders that just needed bleeding and the carbs spilled gas, otherwise it was fine.
