I have a 1978 evinrude 55 hp that used to have tilt and trim before i bought it. I cannot afford to get a new assembly and i really have only 1 problem. when i try to go in reverse my engine comes up. Is there anything I can use to keep it down while going in reverse I don't think a bungee cord would have enough strength but haven't tried it yet either.

Re: problem in reverse

My 1977 Evinrude 55hp non tilt/trim has a level you push over into "run" to prevent to engine coming up. Maybe you could get the bracket and fit onto you engine mount. The local outboard wreckers would problably have them.
