1985 Merc 50hp. Water pump quit pumping while running.(see Lower Post)
I found the impeller seperated from inner brass sleeve. Replaced impeller
and gasket. Replaced lower unit, motor seems to start fine but no water
from pee hole. Removed lower unit and shot compressed air back thru
pee hole hose could not find any blockage. Double checked impeller and
could find no problem. Installed water muffs and turned on water while I
had the lower unit off and the pump seems to be getting water. Reinstalled
lower unit-started engine-still no water flow. Any help would be greatly
appreciated......

How long do u let it run waiting for the water?
My 402 takes a few minutes to get the water pumping.

I let the motor run for approx 20-30 sec. The side of the block was getting
hot to touch so I shut it back down.

I had the same type of problem. But what I did was shoot compressed air back through telltale while engine is running with the muffs connected and water on. That started my water flow.

for me I used old trailer wire (or weed-eater line) up the tell-tale which pulled out a lot of sediment (mud dobbers). pee'd the very next start within seconds

Read some old posts and found another option. I repulled the lower unit
and installed the water feed tube into the power head first then remounted
the lower unit. Put muffs on lower unit and fired up the motor--- after about
15 secs. water started out of the pee hole. Launched the boat today and
ran/trolled for about and hour and not problems. Thanks to all new and old
posts that helped with this problem.....
