From a previous post, solved the problem of transmission jumping out of gear on our 1960 75 horse engine. I will be posting how we resurfaced drive faces of gears, along with photos.

But now, boat moves along at low speed, but up the throttle, the engine races but boat speed doesn't increase, forward or reverse. Stays in gear fine, just doesn't move at a fast pace. Could it be the clutch in the prop? Before we had transmission problems, boat accelerated fine. Coincidence?

Gotta be a spun hub in the prop.

Welcome aboard Handyjim.:)

You have two choices, either replace it or have it rebuilt.

Or buy a new one.
ebay?

Problem with ebay is people think used parts are worth gold.
I needed a new prop for my 76 6hp, I bought a 69 6hp of craigslist for $40 and stole its prop. ($60ish on ebay)

Then I cleaned that engine up, now I need a prop for it. Its a never ending cycle, but thats besides the point.

Im pretty interested in seeing how you did the gear work.

Prop shop or Johnnyrude dealer can re-hub or get it re-hubbed for about $40-50.

Can someone give me the name of a shop that will will rehub? Places I've found don't do small props!

I'll start new thread on how we saved the gears tomorrow. Want to go over the photos first.

I came across the same site. I'll contact them Monday. Freight both ways and the repair works out to $60.00. That's do-able.
