I know this is an unusual post, because I am not really looking for an answer to a problem, just sharing an answer I finally discovered for a problem I've been having! :D (This may be of help for someone with a similar problem).<br /><br />First, let me say it's good to be back on the forum. With the hurricanes we have been having my attention has been elsewhere! :rolleyes: <br /><br />A little history of the problem:<br />I put a new 5.7 Mercruiser crate engine in a boat I bought a little over a year ago. At the time I posted about having fuel problems. I ended up being towed back in the first time I used the boat with the new engine! I got that problem resolved eventually with simply removing all the old fuel.<br /><br />The engine has had problems periodically with starting and its idle. My brother was visiting from out of town and, again, the boat wound up being towed in. :mad: <br /><br />After checking and replacing the fuel/water separater (even though it didn't look bad), and doing a tune up, (even though the engine only has 60 hours or so), it was decided to take the carb apart. It had water in the bowel and lots of rust and trash in it. A quick rebuild and everything works great!<br /><br />I knew water had gotten into the carb when I took it out the first time, and I know that water is heavier than gas and would settle in the bottom of the carb, but I had assumed that it would all mix up in the bowel of the carb and burn on through the engine. I WAS WRONG. All this time a simple disassembly of the carb would have solved a lot of problems.<br /><br />Hopefully this helps someone! :cool:

cool ;) <br /><br />I went through the same experience when I replaced a 1976 motor in my 24' in 1993, except for having to get towed thankfully.<br /><br />I would like to add that when we replacing a motor, especially on an older boat, that you really really really need to go through the entire fuel system. From the carb inlet to the bottom of the fuel tank, and fuel tank filler and vent! I assumed (key word) that all that was fine when I did my motor replacement. As a result I went through the same headaches that first season.
