I have a 1991 bayliner with the 3cyl. force L-drive. (90) horse. When I put the boat in the water I get a leak from around the plate towards the back side of the engine. It is not a large leak but the when running at idle the water splashes on to the engine and causes it to die at low speeds. I have tried tightening six clamps but the clamps on the rear of the engine are just about impossible to get to. Does any one have an idea on how to get this leak stopped. <br /> Next question is that the engine has always run and started. For the first time ever I left it in the water overnight at a lake. The next morning I went and got in and it would not start period. I have a brand new battery and it spun over but never fired. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them, also checked the fuel filter but the engine never would start. Any Ideas would be great help. Any one want a boat cheap? The boat otherwise is great and has always been reliable.

Re: Problem with force L-drive

I had the same problem on my L-Drive. I had to do some work on the u-joint which required me to take out eveything. When I reinstalled, I put a new gasket on the transom plate, which solved the problem for about a year. I now still get a little water leak at high idle, just before boat gets on plane. It doesn't seem to cause any major problems though. I've heard these models typically develop leads around the transom plate.
