I have a 14ft aluminum gamefisher semi v boat, i bought brand new in 92, heres the problem, i put a casting platform on it over this winter, used 3/4 inch plywood soaked with thompsons and carpeted it,platform runs from the front of the craft over the first small seat ( if you want to call it that) to the end of the second seat, it looks great, has 2 openings for storage and i even installed a bow mount motor, and nice seats, but when i finally put it in the water, it is now very unstable in the front, by that i mean if you stand up it rocks back and forth greatly, i knew that i would be raising the center of gravity, but did not realize it would affect it this much, it is 56 in at its widest point,

i only use this boat in a man made lake, electric motor only, very small compound, shoud i leave the deck in and try to get used to it, or rip it out and try to lower the decks to the floor level, that way there will still be a leve deck, only lower?

i spent about 3 months doing all the adjustments to the rig and just hate to think it was all for nothing?

any suggestions????????????

Re: Problem with stability

I have several local electric lakes, and have done some boat modding to adapt to them. I once experienced a similar problem . But not to your extent. I solved then back end of my boat popping out of the water by putting my 3 batteries in the back of the boat. Since your not moving fast, what about adapting a float for front to increase stability. They sell them for canoes. Cabelas sells them go to their website and do a search for canoe float.

Re: Problem with stability

I know your boat well, fished in one several times. It is not the most stable boat to begin with, especially with weight in the front. :(

I know you have just completed a lot of work, and hate to have to do it over. But it would be more stable if the platform was over the rear portion of the boat.

Using a high bouyancy float, wrapped around the bow at the waterline, as suggested above, may give you a more stable boat.
