Hello all, Im new here but have been reading up on all of your post. Great information here.

But i do have a question for any one on here that might give a direction to look. I have a 1994 Johnson SPL112 outboard that im having trouble with.. I can start it up on dry land with water muffs on. Most of the time it starts right up and runs good. But when i put it in the waterand it has back pressure on the exhaust it does not want to start unless put it in gear and really give it the throttle. Even then its really hard to fire up. Any help would really be apprieciated.
Thanks in advance

Post the results of a compression test.-----Have battery charged and load tested.-----Inspect starter motor.

The 100 / 80 PSI indicates that the cylinder head needs to come off.----Likely a scored piston / broken piston rings.-----Some will argue but this motor may need a rebuild.----Lucky you if it is a blown head gasket.
