1989 Merc Blackmax 200hp OutBoard.
newbie here, 1st boat.
usually, it fires up on the first try or second but for the past three times over the course of 2 weeks i have been having lots of problems getting it going.
upon starting- it revs up at 5500 rpms and before i get the chance to pull the throttle back to nuetral-it dies right out. fire it up again and same thing happens. lots of smoke, way more than normal.
today, same thing happened again but tons of smoke engulfed me and the boat. however, i got it running after several tries and it was sputtering. felt like it wasn't running on all cylinders. really rough sounding, did not feel like it should be driven around.
background: last summer had it tuned up at the merc dealer and this past winter, had it winterized by a professional. this summer i did not do anything to it.
also, it is running on last years gas with stabilizer and i have not filled up yet because of the E10 ethanol issues. wanted to run close to empty before i filled up with the new E10 gas. i currently have 1/2 tank left.
any insight is appreciated!!!
thanks dualie
