sorry to be a PIA but not having much luck ! 1962 mercury outboard 500 50hp 4cyl 2stroke s/n 1519547 . I went to a couple of my local merc dealers and found an impellar, but nobody has a listing for the waterpump or rebuild kit . I tried the merc site listed here but they say the #'s ihave aren't enough info to give me parts listing's . what i was wondering is if there's a newer year lower unit i could put on my motor to make it easier to get parts for . or if anybody has another idea ,another place ican get parts from ? i've got the impeller ineed the waterpump gaskets and seals and anything else for the waterpump.thanx i'm getting desprite.

Re: problems w/ waterpump

Hi,<br />Merc never made kits for this motor as a matter of fact they didn't make kits for any motors. All the parts are bought indivually because back then we repaired things. The pump housing is metal and I have only replaced one in or two in 40 yrs (Froze and cracked) The cup insert is replacable as is the plate. They maybe NLA rom the factory but can be found. The gaskets if not torn can be reused because you have a metal body just put some sealer on them. I am guessing that your motor has prop exhaust,to have the style pumpbody I'm talking about(held on by 3 nuts).I don't see a email address for you in your profile so I will look for what you need at work. You will need to email me so I can let you know about them.

Re: problems w/ waterpump

Thanx corm , the dealer i talked to here said the only thing he had a listing for was the impeller & the stainless steel cup the impeller sat in . he said to check the cup before i purchase it as they hardly ever go bad . but he had no listing for gaskets or seals ( don't know which it has untill i pull it apart) . which i'm gonna do this weekend but wanted to have all the parts i could get first . i've allways felt better to buy & have on hand , rather than take apart & have to find parts later . so if you can find the plate & gaskets i need i'll be more than happy to buy them & pay for shipping . thanx again, skippy. skippy10963@aol.com OH & yes my exhaust is through my prop like you indicated.
