I have a 1988 suzuki 55hp that when I increase the gas, the oil light comes on (even though the oil resevoir is full)and the engine bogs down. The dealer I brought it to can't figure out the problem. They did install a new water pump and that remedied the problem for a while but the problem is back again.

Why would they install a water pump if the oil light came on???
Did your motor overheat?
Was water coming out of the tell tale?
Does the bulb go soft?
Check your fuel lines and make sure that they're no leaks. also make sure that the tank is venting properly.
If all is well there, then move on to the fuel pump, and install a new diaphram kit,let us know if that helps :)

Around about 1988, (I don't know which year) the Suzuki oil injection oil screen incorporated a flow sensor to detect when the screen was blocked. I believe the sensor would cause the rev-limiter in the ignition to limit the engine to something like 2500 rpm until reset. Regardless, first go through the oil injection system. Replace the oil screen/sensor which is beneath the oil tank inline with the oil supply to the oil injection pump beneath the carbs. While you're at it replace the oil lines if they have never been done. The oil injection output can be measured at idle speed and maximun (you can disconnect the linkage and give the engine full oil at idle rpm) using a syringe connected to the oil injection pump. Consult a manual which can be orderd at the bottom of this web page for the rates and rpm. Don't run this engine without premix 50:1 until you get to the bottom of this problem
