Hi, I had this boat running great all year. Last weekend it ran great for about 8 hours however every once in a while when I put it in gear I heard a belt squeal before it actually went into gear. At the end of the day I turned the boat off in the middle of the lake to relax for a bit and when I turned it back on, I put it in gear and I heard the squeal again and the boat wouldnt move. When I finally got towed in I did a few rule outs myself but I am by far no expert and have hit the end of my knowledge.

Subjective Info: The problem is not a spun prop, and the cables are putting the boat in gear well. when it is running dry and I put it in gear the prop moves very slightly but does not catch all the way (almost seems like a burnt out clutch type deal). THe lower end oil is new and is full.

Could I be dealing with a costly inner drive issue? Any help is very very appreciated. THANKS!

There is no "lower end oil" ,the whole drive should be filled.
Check the oil level first at the top screw.Could it be a motor issue?
Squealing could be the engine coupler but normally they dont make noise, just stop working.

Does the motor overheat? If so, you most likely have a spun coupler, not an issue with your SE106 at all. I'll bet you a nickel that you have a spun coupler, not a drive issue.

How would I determine a spun coupler? I didnt have it running for long enough to determine if it was overheating, but I do remember thinking when it broke that the engine was extremely hot when I was "troubleshooting"

WITH THE MOTOR OFF AND THE IGN KEY IN YOUR POCKET
Shift into fwd gear, prop should lock ccw, have someone watch the input shaft behind the motor while you step on a prop blade and try to turn it.
prop turns, input shaft turns: coupler
prop turns, shaft dosent: drive issue.

often if the cupler is spun you can see pieces of rubber on the shaft if you look carefully where the shaft leaves the bellhousing.
