hi guys not sure where to start just bought the boat got it started finally and it came with two controllers the one on the boat is from the original motor wich is another one. we have the controller that is "supposed" to go to the 115 not sure though, had to work the throttle with the cowl off and can't figure out why it wont go into reverse not sure where to go from here the prop spins forward when we start the motor. do we have to have the throttle cable hooked up to make it go into reverse or how does that work? thanks for all the help and you're time!!!!!!

i believe so

What tashasdaddy is saying is that it requires a proper electrical input to the shift before it will work. Correct and functional shift switch.

There are tons of threads on the subject on this forum.

o ok so the problem might be that we don't have the correct ignition hooked up the one that's in there now is from the original motor that came with the boat but we do have the one that's supposed to go with the 115hp could that be the problem

the motor has to be running for the lower unit to shift. the 69 has a different set up than the 71 & 72, in the controller there is an electric switch that controls the shift, if the switch is bad, wire corroded or broken, or solenoid in lower unit bad, it will not shift.
