miloman,

I do not see how a four stroke lower unit would be different than a 2-stroke, except for ratio?

Did you even run this thing? I know you just got it.

I would just crack open the lower drain screw and see if there is any water in there.

What does the manual say to do? Along with checking the L/U, I would run some fogging oil through the intake and tell it "good night".

miloman,

If you never had it in the water, or on the muffs, don't worry about the L/U.

If you've never run it, then you CAN squirt a LITTLE fogging oil in the cyl's. of you want to. I really do not think it is necessary, if you haven't run it.

However, it may give you some piece of mind.

Re: process fro winterizing 4 stroke

Miloman,
#1 congrats! :D
#2 read the Owners Manual
#3 store the engine standing up, with oil
#4 check oil in the engine BEFORE you start it

Mine was delivered without oil. But you can say it was winterized when delivered. It's a long way from Japan to Sweden or Canada.

If the dealer filled the lower unit with oil thats fine. No need for draining the carbs, changing spark plugs, oil and fuel filters etc on a new engine.

Mine came with a propeller. I tried it and it redlined (after break in) so I went back to the dealer, got another one. Just a swap. I said if it isn't dead on 6000 rpm I'll be back in 10 minutes or I'm going home. It was just fine.

So, read the Owners Manual, get a new propeller later (spring?), kiss your wife, be happy.

Hey miloman!!
if you hqave not run the motor or purged the fuel system I would just leave it if you have done eather of the above you should run fuel with stabilizer through it. I think the honda will be faster that 50 you ran. Good luck

miloman if she got the wire harness with the gauge kit it will be a plug and play set up. If not spend the $35 and get the wire harness, it's well worth it.

Re: process fro winterizing 4 stroke

I'd say 34-36 mph, or around 35 mph as Rick just said :D

I belive the Evinrude 50 wasn't in great shape? But if it ran good @ wot and the propeller had the right pitch and was in good shape, no I don't think the Honda vill be faster than the Evinrude.
