My friend gave me a 1979 boat that's been sitting in his yard for at least 3 years. 20 ft proline cuddy with suzuki 140. The front hatch on cabin is gone. Rainwater sat pooled in cabin and rotted all the wood. It doesn't look like the water was able to run through to rear of boat. I found a broke bilge pump through access in floor of cabin. I cut away as much of the rotted wood as I could. Can I just cut, grind to good materials and replace wood/glass over? The deck feels solid...i can see under deck on sides of gas tank from cabin area. It looks fairly clean...i reached in and hit it with hammer and screwdriver, feels solid...is proline like this worth the repair work in your opinion? I haven't even messed with the engine yet. I used a pulley to pull it off of the transom because I thought I'd have to try to take inner liner off to get to under deck...it's looking more and more though like deck is good.

John,

Pro Line makes a good boat.

Yes, you can go to the good area and work from there. It gets a little tricky if you are trying to splice a stringer. But I don't think, from your desription, that you have a problem with those.

That Zuki 140 is going to be a bare bones minimum for that boat, they're heavy.

I owned a 1980 Proline 20 cuddy for 10 yrs and sorry I sold it...GREAT boat. Used hard and it held up. The funky front hatch was the only bad thing on the boat and that is because the bracket was a poor design. I have no idea where you would find another like it. The long skinny fuel tank was 70 gals. With some work, you can access the hull by removing the hatch over the tank.

If memory serves me right the hull was 2400lbs plus motor and accessories. I had a 140 Johnson on it and that was plenty...speed lightly loaded was right at 40. These days 40 is slow but not exactly a dog. A 90 would be minimum and was the rated minimum. This is not a deep vee and it gets along pretty good with less power than deep vees.
