I just purchased a 20ft aluminum flat with this Suzuki 150 v6 (1989). The guy that I got it from had let it sit up for five years and the carbs were filled with gunk. I got them cleaned, and it started right up. So the next day I take it out and it was only running at 3,000 rpms full throttle. So I turn around heading back to the launch and it just kicked in. I was then running about 4500 rpms. So I picked up the boat got home and called the local suzuki dealer and he tells me that it should be running 5500 rpms and to drain the carbs and see what comes out. I did. Nothing! Crystal clear! I take it out the following day and It just takes off and is running at running at 5,000 rpms. So the next day I take it out and my luck it wont start. I finally get it to start and it runs perfect. I tell the dealer this and he tells me "next time it wont start, choke the engine manually by turning the screw up top. Sure enough I did and it fired right up. My question is, Could it be that the electronic choke is getting stuck? Because its definetely not choking when I push the key in. Is this a hard fix ( common)? What should I do to fix this promblem? where to check first? I know this is a long topic but this is whats been going on this past week. Just trying to get everything right.

Re: promblem with Super six 150 V6.

I wanted to add that I think at the time when I was running at only 3000 rpms the choke was working but stuck. Then it became unfrozen and now not doing anything. One more question what is that part that sits at the top of the engine that looks like a Little carb? This is the part that I am manually choking the motor with. But the actual choking system is located on the right side of the bottom carb. Right? All these questions may sound stuipid but I just dont know so thats why Iam asking. I did test the voltage on the little orange wire on the (what I call lilttle carb) and it is reading 24 volts. How does this part come into play with the gear assembely on the bottom carb? lol hope this all make since. hope you understand, if not I dont mind being called a complete idot. lol

hello the part at the bottom carb is a throttle switch, some years used a sensor but yours may be a switch, anyway all it controls is ign timing. the "carb" looking thing is a primer system for cold starts.it has a needle and a float like a carb and the electric solinoid has a plunger. when acuated the plunger retracts and allows fuel to flow to the ports on the carbs making the fuel mix richer for starting. they will gunk up from sitting as well. need to be cleaned sometimes.

Re: promblem with Super six 150 V6.

man thanks alot. So the throttle switch shouldnt move or anything? The part I am talking about has gears that appear like it would open or close somthing. Anyway I know I am getting power to the primer system because I tested it. So I am guessing it is stuck like you said. I guess I will take it apart and clean it. Thanks so much for your help. P.S the part that you are calling a throttle switch, it has a wire harness with that goes directly to the box in the back of the power head. The only reason I keep talking about this part is to make sure we are on the same page. Thanks again. Bradley

the throttle switch is just that. it tells the CDI information on throttle angle. if I was not so lazy I could go look up if you had a switch or a sensor. the CDI uses sensor/switch info to advance/retard timing. a picture would help a bunch about now :)

Re: promblem with Super six 150 V6.

I did write that It was a 1989 but I am not 100% positive this is correct. the guy at the local shop told me its between 86-89 and that he really beleives its a 89. We just cant tell because the part that holds the motor to the transome is not the one that came with that engine. So we cant go off those numbers. But from buying parts and him looking at it he thinks its a 89. By the way what do you think about this engine in particular, as far as quality, and durable? Any suggestions on what to do to make this engine last and run good.

hello
while looking in the manual for some 100 susy specs here is your ign. 89 and up v6 uses the micro-link ign system with a throttle valve sensor. no switch on yours its actually a potentiometer that tells the computer throttle valve angle.
may I suggest you purchase manual number 99514-03930-01E as well as the service manual. makes killer reading :) :) its a reccomendation for all suzy two stroke owners. may even be an updated one. mine is from about 94

Pull the lower cowling cover off (one that fits around the exhaust/water outlet) and you will find the serial no. of your engine stamped up by the gasket split on the stbd. side. The first digit of the six digit no. is the model year. 9xxxxx and you have a 1989, 0xxxxx ,a 1990 etc..

Hey thanks, I do have the Micro link ignition. Thats what it says on the back of the cover of it. So I guess I do have a 89 because of the Micro link ign.? Where to look to find the manuals for this motor?

Re: promblem with Super six 150 V6.

Just to let you know Rodbolt, I unbolted the primer and the bowl and casing was spotless. I did notice that the spring that goes into that needle (small shaft), was only sticking out a tiny bit. So I took it out and it was all varnished and stuck inside of the needle. So I cleaned it with carb cleaner, put it back together and sure enough when I pushed the key in, I heard it click and fuel came out. Before I cleaned it, it wasnt even clicking because the spring was locked up. UP AND RUNNING NOW!!! I think I got a good deal now considering that the boat, motor, and brand new majic tilt trailer only cost me $3,000. The motor was rebuilt and the guy I got it from is a good freind of my dad and he said that it might have 20 hours on it max. 20ft aluminum flat w/ five foot fan tail. 1989 suzuki 150 super six. Well I dont have anymore questions for now, you answered all of them and I really appreciate it.

Re: promblem with Super six 150 V6.

keep the oil tank clean and the inline oil filter clean, keep the fuel system clean and the cooling system maintained yearly and there is a good chance you wont post again :)

The oil injection is bypassed so I dont have to worry about that i just mix the oil in the tank. I have a external fuel\water seperater. Boy am I am glad to hear that from you.
