I have an ?88 Force 85hp that?s having some trouble. Its starts great first time, but after its run for a while it has problems re-starting (to the point to where it will kill the battery). If I don?t shut it off, it?ll run all day like a champ ? but once I turn it off and sits for a while, it always has problems restarting. If I restart it quickly after shutting it down, she'll restart ok...but if I let the kids go for a swim...big problems. But if I tried it the next day, it would start up without a problem.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Sounds like something is failing after the engine is warm. If I had to guess, your carb needs a good cleaning.

Also, try running some SeaFoam through the gas to get out carbon build up.

Not enough information. Is it flooded, do you need to choke it? The next time it does not start pull a plug and look, this will tell a lot. Possiable low compression when hot. If the plug is dry, and you choke it and can not get the plug wet, It is probably low comp. Chech that when it is hot.

i had the same issues with my 85 hp a couple of years ago, it turn ed out to be the fuel pump diaphram leaking fuel into the cylinder while the engine was shut down, causing real hard starts or no start at all when warm. it cost about eight bucks and a half hr to change after replacing never had a problem restarting when warm good luck

Betting the fuel pump is leaking into the engine and flooding the bottom cylinder.

I suggest changing the fuel pump diaphram and blowing out all of the scavange hoses and ports. I would also check your mixture while you are at it. Next time it happens, you can pull the plugs and see what they look like before you restart the engine. This will give you a good indication of what is going on mixture wise.

Re: Promblems starting after being warmed up

Have you cleaned out the fuel recirculation fitting below the number three cylinder? It has a small orifice in it and gets plugged easily. If it is plugged, the fuel that boils over into the intake manifold will get sucked into the lower cylinder rather than into the crankcase. This will cause hard starting.
