Ok, sooo I need some advise. I have a 2000 lund pro v dual console with a 2000 evinrude 175 ficht ram motor. I'm running wayyyy to many rpm at WOT. Like around 6800! The guy I bought the boat from didn't have it propped right.....it currently has a 14 3/4- 19" SST prop on it. I run around 51-53 mph. will going to a 21" drop my rpms enough? Also, my hole shot sucks!! Suggestions on types of props?! Thanks!!

Re: PROP Advise

A quick run thru the calculator indicates that your 1.86 gear ratio swinging a 19 pitch prop with a 10% slip yielding 52 mph comes out to about 5996 rpm.

If your tach is showing 6800 rpm, it appears that it might be wrong.

If your motor is turning about 6000 rpm at WOT, it doesn't follow that the hole shot would be that bad.

The chart shows your 175's rpm range as 4750-5250 rpm.

Going up in pitch should reduce the WOT rpm, while not normally helping hole shot.

Better verify the WOT rpm before doing anything.

BRH........ you wont find much better advice than what's above.......... as for improving hole shot.. a 4 blade would help that too.....make sure your Tach is right.......hollar at jestor... he will point you in the right direction......

Re: PROP Advise

How did u get the 10% slip? when I plug those numbers (6800rpm, 52mph, 19' pitch) into the slip calculator i get like a 21% slip? Also, hole shot isn't that important to me...i was just saying lol

Re: PROP Advise

also, the suggested wot is 5750 at the top end.

OK; use that.

The 10% slip is what is considered usual(10-13%) for a V hull with normal(low) drive height. The more you raise the slip number, the more you raise the calculated rpm.

If you leave the rpm box blank, and input realistic numbers in the other boxes, then click "calculate" above the rpm box, if gives you the rpm estimate that it should be turning based on the other data.

If you use 6800 rpm/21% slip, you probably won't get the pitch right the first time.

Going to a 21 pitch should work, if hole shot isn't a consideration.

Checking these numbers gives you an indication that something doesn't seem right.

Them you start checking things that might be likely to cause this; tach is off, prop hub is slipping a little causing the high rpm, prop is damaged, etc.

The easiest thing to check first is the tach. If that pans out, try to figure out why your SST prop is producing pontoon boat slip numbers.
