Hi,

I have a 1970 115 hp evinrude lower unit,

My question is I did not get a prop with this lower unit when i bought it. im having a hard time looking for one, What i dont understand is the shaft is straight there is no taper to it, does this mean theres no thrust washer for this particular lower unit? And where can i find a reference guide to figure out what numbers the original omc prop had.

Thanks in advance.

weird.. if you ever bend that prop shaft, you can fix it with a scissor jack from any old car.. i just did it and it works like a dream!

Re: prop and prop shaft question

ahhh sorry what i meant was the shaft stays one diameter from just behind the splines all the way to where the seal is, thus there would be no place to seat a thrust washer so im kind of wondering because i looked up thrust washers on the internet and i saw them listed only as far back as 1971 which would be a year after this unit was made.

Hello Lugnut36,
If you can wait until tomorrow I'll come back on with the numbers that you need.

The thrust washer is only splinned half way through, so it stops on the prop shaft where the splines quit. I hope that makes sense but it's tough to describe without drawing a picture.

c/6

Hooty
