I have a 97 ProCraft 21' bass boat w/225 EFI Mercury. I am running a 25P LaserII. If I don't ease into the gas to get on plane the prop just blows out and I have to let out and start over or it will not get on plane. It seems to be okay once it is on plane at top in it will run around 85 MPH. A guy I work with said a 4 blade may be better but not as good on top end. This boat is like new and 4 sale. Looking for a 68 or 69 SS Chevelle willing to trade.

Re: Prop blow out

Just what every bass boat needs, 85mph top end.
How fast do you troll, 20mph?

All I can think of is to just ease it onto plane. :D

BTW guys, do most lakes have a speed limit or not (I would think small lakes might)?

Re: Prop blow out

How high is your propshaft in relation to the pad. I guess I should say what is the approx. measerment from bottom of pad to prop shaft????

Re: Prop blow out

I'm not sure on the prop shaft-to-pad...!!! But the motor is almost all the way down on the transum. Maybe 1" off. I have not ever moved it.

And most of the lakes here in Kentucky that I go to are big so fast is good...LOL (Dale Hollow, KyLake)

Re: Prop blow out

On a smaller setup I had the same problem. My Sea Ray 16 w/ 115 Merc has a notched transom/pad and the x-dimension is approx. 1" higher than the keel.

With the std. 21" alu prop it did exactly the same, ventilated on any attempt to trim or cornering. I never knew if this prop was right as it always revved way up.

Got a 22" 5-blade SS (HighFive) prop and got the smoothest pull, perfect grip trim and all. Now I can trim it to exactly the ride I want.

Top end is 49 mph GPS with persons & light load.

Your Lazer performs better than my alu did, but appearantly needs more blade area in water at any time under load.

Re: Prop blow out

I think UU has the answer....go to a 4 or 5 blade. you will lose a little top end but holeshot and midrange should be excellent.......

Re: Prop blow out

A friend of mine has a similar problem with over powering the prop. (700 hp in a 23' aluminum). It just digs a hole for itself if you hammer the throttle. The 4 blade will definately help... 85? You can afford to lose a little top speed :)

Re: Prop blow out

:) And by the way, aren't we all looking for a 68-69 SS Chevelle... (or similar)? :)
I've been trying to get a 1960 Corvette off a buddy of mine for 10 years and it looks like it may happen soon! :p It's disassembled and not #'s so I won't feel bad puting a little power in 'er and some better brakes/steering! I'm pretty excited about it!!!! Can you tell? :) :D :)
