I just finished putting a new (to me) motor on my boat, and just got it in the water for the first time today. The motor runs great, except that it only runs 4800 rpm's at WOT. From what I have read It should be closer to 5800, the motor came off of a smaller boat so I am thinking I am over propped.
The boat is a 1993 17' Bayliner Capri, 1040 lbs dry weight.
The motor is a 1994 Johnson 90, model J90TLERC.
The prop is a 13"x19p Stainless steel, unsure of manufacturer, but it is painted or powdercoated black like a factory prop.
Additional weight including me, gas, and stereo is approx. 400 lbs.
Performance numbers are 4800 rpm @ 43 mph (gps).
This is the lightest the boat will be run, as there will usually be others in it with me, so I would like to get the rpm's closer to the recommended 5800 @ WOT, so I am not bogging it down with more weight. I am guessing I need to go down to a 14 or 15 pitch, but the ones I am finding are 13.5 or 13.75 diam. So I am just looking for suggestions before I go spend the money on the wrong prop, btw none of the dealers here do loaner props. Thank you in advance for your help.
