I have a 200HP 2000 Johnson (Carbureted) on a 19’ Stratos (Fishing/Fiberglass). Currently using 25 pitch 4 blade renegade prop and 6” easy slide manually jackplate. 5800 at WOT, 62 MPH (GPS).

From all the reading I have done out here, I think my numbers look good. However, I feel that the whole shot is poor, and would prefer getting on plane faster as apposed to speed.

What would be the recommended changes to do this? I don’t have the motor height measurements, but my motor seems to ride very low when trimmed all the way down (I know it sounds backwards)?

Also, while changing out the trim motor, I think I may have messed something up on the tach. Now when I startup tach works fine but stops when the rpm’s start going up and bounces back when I hit the trim button… Think I may have something grounding out, but that is a different story…

Thanks in advance for you’re and look forward to any thought on how to get my boat on plane faster…

I thought I just answered this but I must have punched the wrong button.

Is your Renegade ported? If not might get a prop shop to port it. This is one way of getting out of the hole faster without affecting other parameters of performance.

Ports allow the prop to ventilate which allows the engine to develop it's hp fast and having done that, in no time the boat is on plane and the water rushing by closes the ports, the engine downshifts with the added load (ventilation ceases), and away you go.....like having overdrive in a car. Fun to feel and hear it.

Mark

Real popular nowadays. Ask Kenny (Walleyehed) or go to your marine dealer or prop shop. They'll tell you.

Mark
