Is it possible to change a prop while the outdrive is underwater? My max tilt is only enough to stick part of a blade out. I am not worried about being in the water and doing the work, but is it possible, or will something get ruined? Thanks!

Jim

Sure it's possible. Nothing will get ruined except your day if you drop something.

Done it a few times myself. Good idea to have a spare thrust washer, prop nut and lock tab handy. Oh, and try a bit of string to the spanner.

Have fun.

Chris.................

Take it to the beach on a calm day. Like said just don't drop anything and if you do you will be in shallow water.

I would make that 2 spares of everything even the spanner or wrench. Just in case you drop the 1st one. You never know and you can't be too careful. Nothing ruin a boating day when you don't have part to take of repair and be tow back to dock.

I have done it a few times while trying to figure out which pitch I needed. It is easier to lube the inside of the hub rather than the shaft when your doing this in the water.

Cool It

I did it two days ago, and had no problem.. I am the most novice boater out there, and it was pretty easy.. The only problem I had was I did it late in the day, and it can get a little difficult to see what you are doing once the water gets dark..

I have a magnetic parts tray I use for stuff like this, comes in handy when your working with small parts.

Jim

Since it would difficult to lube the prop shaft underwater, lube the inside of the prop. I have used a number of "devices" for this...everything from popcycle sticks to tooth brushes, fingers work well too.
