I recently purchased a broken boat. 1989 Ebbtide 196SS (1700lbs dry weight). With a Johnson GT200 model J200STLCEB. I got the motor all fixed up and been breaking it in. Have not had it wide open yet, so top speed is unknown. The prop installed is 14.5 X 19P. I'm trying to figure out if this prop is best suited for my needs. From sitting still to full throttle the boat will plane out very fast (3 people and half tank of gas on board). I think at 4k rpms it's doing around 40mph (phone gps). Is this pretty standard for my set up? What should/might my top speed be? Should I just keep the prop I got? There are allot of options out there..

Using 1.85 gear ratio 40 mph isn't possible at 4000.The 19" is a good starting point.

What you might do is take a look at the recommended rpm range for the engine. If the the recommended rpm is between 4800 and 5200
( just a guess ), then you want a prop that will be in that range at wide open throttle, trimmed, and a load of say, half a tank of fuel, couple people, and gear. With the 200 hp, I would think if propped correctly, your boat might run into the low 50's or so.

I had some time to head out to the lake to reassure my Rpm vs. Mph. Turns out at 4k I was at about 36 mph and at max throttle (about 5600) I was doing about 52 mph. I think my prop pitch its about perfect if I want to pull some skiers next year.
