prop choice on 150hp johnson

I recently purchased a streaker 5.45 bluewater with a 2000 model 150hp oceanpro johnson. At wot i get 5700rpm at about 34knots. The prop is a 15.5x15.I would like to know what prop would give better top end and fuel economy. It would have no trouble pulling up a couple of skiers but did not by the boat for that reason

weres your motor sittng on the transome?is the cavitation plate below the boat?what hole is the motor sitting in?do you have a jackplate?and what kind of prop is it?These are a few of the questions the prop guys are going to be asking.<br /><br />And welcome to iboats.

the motor sits straight onto transom. there is no pod on the back if that what u mean.the cavitation plate sits about 2 inches above the very bottom of the boat.the motor is sitting in hole 3.if a jackplate is an extension on the cavitation plate i do not have 1. it is a standard ally prop.

Youre at about 12% slip which isnt bad at all. Especially for an aluminum prop.

Let me get this straight, you want to go faster and use less gas. You out to rewrite the laws of Physics or something? Isn't that an oxymoron?

If we can go faster at the same RPM, we have accomplished higher speed with better fuel milage. If the set-up can be made more efficient, (better prop, higher mounting, maybe some set-back) this can be done easily.

would like to think i could gat about 38-40 knotts out of that size motor on that size boat. would you recommend a 17 or 19 pitch prop? not to concernad on economy but would like a better top end speed with a bit less revs.would anyone recomend i change the motor height and to what setting and would it be worth putting on a jackplate?

A jackplate is always good,it makes it easier to raise and lower the motor,you can try raising it up a little at a time and testing it ,I starte at 1/8 inch movements ,always try to start with the setup,it dosnt cost that much to do,and it actually helps tp learn and understand how little modifications can help the boat.<br /><br />You have some the best guys here helping you,listen to them.
