I have a 1966 Johnson Golden Meteor 100hp motor that I am wanting to replace with a newer motor. I also have 4 props for this motor of various pitches.

My question is what year/years motor will these props fit AND will they only fit Johnson/Evenrude? I would like to save some money if possible and use these props with the newer motor.

Thanks in advance and have a Great Thanksgiving!

I am not familiar with your motor, but most newer motors will have thru the prop exhaust. Some makes and models switched over in the early 70's, some later.

Right, indeed. Merc patented it first and the other manufacturers adapted the idea as soon as the patent ran out.

If you like, I can work my way through some old prop catalogues- however you'll most likely want a motor of a newer design and not be able to re-use the props.

If in good condition they could bring in some bux if you sell them.

I thank you for your replies. I was hoping to save a few bucks but I would rather upgrade with a newer motor. My budget for rebuilding this boat is kind of tight but I guess if I want a boat, it won't do me any good if it doesn't run or I can't trust it.

Again, thanks!

Those props use a large drive pin (erroneously called a shear pin) to connect it to the propeller shsft. Later model motors use a splined driveshaft and prop, so yours will only fit the 66-68 100hp. and the older OMC stern drives with electric shift.

UU, as a matter of fact, Elto (Evinrude Light Twin Outboard) had thru-prop exhaust in 1926. Fifteen years before there was a Mercury. I happen to have one, Rudder Twin. Mercury made the the inboard outboard popular in 1964, paying Volvo
a royalty on every one who developed the gimbal turn and tilt aspect. OMC actually made the first I/O in the early 1930's.
On the 1966 100 hp, I would put it on E-Bay, also the props. A prop shaft rated engine of 85 hp-1984 or newer would give as much push as the old 100.
Backfire ;)
