I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out how much damage I did today.

I was running my boat today through a channel at high tide when I hit something below the surface. It must have been hard as hell, because about 1/2 inch of one of the prop blades is bent over, and the bottom 1 inch of the lower unit is sheared off. The engine vibrates a little, but I was able to get back to dock at 1500 RPM without incident.

I can replace the propeller, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I should check on. What will be the effect of missing the bottom of the lower unit? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

FYI, the engine is a 1994 OMC 150 HP.

Re: Prop damage

Howdy, CTboater.

The prop can be repaired or replaced. When you take it off spin the shaft to see if the propshaft is bent.

You can have your skeg repaired or you can add a SkegGard (Cabelas, $99). I prefer the SkegGard because it is SS and provides more prop protection.

Good luck. :)
