prop diameter?

what does diam. of prop do for performance.I see two,. 12.5 or 13.8" for two different pitches 17/19 to fit my engine on a website.

What engine are you talking about. Anytime you see two props of the same or nearly the same pitch with well over one inch difference in diameter means one or the other is not for your engine.

engine is an 03 yama F90.curret prop 13 1/4"x17, 3/4" gap @ cavi plate now

Generally diameter is a function of the prop design.Diameter is not considered except for certain specific applications.
A 13.8 isn't likely to even fit on a motor designed for a 12.5.
Look up props for your motor here at iboats I think you will see the
diameter remains pretty stable.Usually will vary based on the pitch.
