Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove a stuck drive pin? It appears to be a piece of a nail, rusted up really bad. It's so close to the thrust washer and I have tried sanding it down - penetrating oil etc. I don't know if I should apply any heat there as I've never been in a lower unit to that extent. I'm leaving it there for now but would be best to have it new.

A small punch and a mallet might do it. Moderate heat won't hurt anything. Just a little and keep the (propane) torch moving.

Do support the underside of the shaft with a piece of wood and some heavier weight underneath it (anvil), it will protect the shaft and the bearings while you are knocking out the remains of that shear pin.

Good tips! I was concerned that heat would melt a seal. I'll give it a shot. Thanks...

Support the underside of the shaft real good, get the right size drift punch and give it one good wack with a hammer. Been there and done that.
