Right now it has 8 x 7.250 2 blade. Seems to load the motor down on 14 ft aluminum v bottom. Just wondered if this was the standard prop for this motor. Does anyone have better setup.

thank you

Re: Prop for 1968 6hp

8 X 7 1/4 is standard prop in the catalog.
Usually with that size motor you need to get some weight forward gas tank anchor and battery if any.Go to a 3 gal plastic tank to save weight.
a 6 will run about 6 hours on 3 gals. wot(wide open throttle)
You could get a tiller extension so you can sit in the middle seat.
With one person about 200 lbs that should plane with an extension.
Extra weight and poorly placed weight can be the difference in planing or not. Sometimes simply leaning as far forward as possible will help it plane but may not stay up when you settle back.Motor trim is also critical To far in (prop close to boat)boat will plow too far out bow will stay up not plane.

i have a merc 6 and a 9.8 if the prop shaft has a 6 tooth spline then your stuck with a 2 blade if its a 8 tooth spline you can get a 3 blade. my 1968 6 hp has 8 teeth and a 3 blade and it does well on a john. agree you need to get some weight in front
