prop for 87 Merc 115 o/b

I own a 87 Merc o/b and while it runs well it lacks some power when pulling skiers out of the water. The prop on it is a 19 pitch, sn48-77346A 40 and a friend gave me a slightly damaged 17 pitch prop s/n 77344A 4. Before I get the damaged prop fixed can anyone tell me if it will work on my motor.

The lower pitch prop will give you more power off the bottom end, you will also run a higher Rpm around 250 Rpm. If your current prop runs at WOT at the max rpm..you might over rev with this prop.<br /><br />If this is the case...just drive the boat responsibly and there should not be a problem, as you should be able to keep the rpm's in the correct range.<br /><br />If you are below the correct range...definately keep the new prop. <br /><br />TMD

The boat tops out at 5300 rpm with the 19 pitch prop so I will be carefull to not run it much higher. Can you tell if the 17p prop will fit on my engine? Thanks for your help.
