I'm confused as to what pitch prop I should get for my 1967 9.5 horsie Johnson outboard.

The model # of the engine is MQ-13B and my current prop has damage so I know I'm not getting the full performance out of it.

I have a 1965 14 ft. Monach V-hull fishing boat and mostly stay in rivers and lakes. Although sometimes the river I go in can get kind of rough (and what fun it is to boat in it!! :D )

I used the prop finder and there's a variety of different pitches and I'm just about clueless. I want to be able to get the most speed out of the engine.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks..

I have this exact motor with a 8x7 prop that pushes my 12' alum jon boat (2 adults, gear, tm, battery, 3 gal gas) 12 mph gps. What size is the current prop (should be stamped next to the hub)?It has a very dependable motor. Best $250 I ever spent on a motor.

I owned a 1967 Johnson 9 1/2. Bought it new for $380.00. I would use a 8 1/4 X 8 1/2. These numbers are on the original prop that came with the motor.

I used the motor on a similar boat and it had very good performance.

If you really want to know the best prop for your set up, you need a tachometer. Then you may end up testing different props. Don't know if it's all that important to you because most just use the standard supplied prop that comes with the motor.
