Is there a difference in design/application between the mercury vengeance (13 1/8 X 16) and the michigan wheel rapture (13 1/4 X 15/17)(i know the pitch is different).
I have a 2005 merc 115 4/s on a BW 190 Nantucket. I single hand fish most of the time. At WOT it hits the over/rev cutout @6200rpm. I would like to go to a larger pitch. I have a merc vengeance prop 13.37 X 14 installed now.It is the standard prop supplied with this motor.

Thanks for your help

Steve

Re: prop for a merc 115 4/s

Welcome to iboats. :)

They don't come with props. It's still a bit of hit and miss. I don't know how much throttle you'd have left once it overrevs. If it overrevs at 3/4 throttle, you'd want to change a few pitch inches. If it's close-but-no-cigar, maybe only an inch or two. But consider your load. When you go out empty, you need a different prop than when you motor back with a good haul of fish in full livewells. But who'd want to swap props all the time? Gonna have to settle for one or the other. You need to prop for the load, and manage the throttle when you're light. When you're light, less than full throttle IS an option. ;)

Thank You Willy

It's overreving at full trottle and I thought I might get better efficiency at mid-renge with a higher pitch. Its only a 19' Whaler with no livewell. On the return trip if I'm lucky it's maybe 10-20 pounds heavier.(flounder/stripers)

Thanks again

Steve

On that I'd expect a 17 to make a good power prop, 21 for speed, 19 for average. Bump that an inch or two either way, but it outta be close. 3-blade props are more efficient than 4-blades and stainless 's thinner blades slice thru the water more efficiently than thicker aluminum ones. So by that logic, a 19" stainless give or take an inch. Only way to know for sure is to give one a try.
