HELP!!! Ran aground at Idle speed. I inspected the damage, the shaft was :( ok but a blade on my prop is bent.
I have a 26 ft 77 John Allmand w/ a 1994 351 ford inboard. It is my first inboard so I am not familiar w/ the prop. What size? Where can I get info on the prop I need? Can they be fixed or have to replaced? New or Used available? Can I get stainless steel or bronze? Do I have to take her out of the water or do I get a a marine diver to fix. Sorry if they sound like silly questions.
Thanks.

Re: Prop for inboard

What type of outrive do you have?

You should be able to take it out while it is in the water. It is more trouble, of course. They sell floating wrenchs at walmart to do it. When you get it off measure from the middle of it to the edge of a good blade. Double that. That is the width. It should have a number on it somewhere. The last digits will probably be ##p. That is your pitch. so if it is 21p it is a 21 pitch. You may be able to have it repaired. You will have to have your local prop shop look at it. It may be just as cheap to buy a new or refurbished one.
Good luck

Hi Vinny.. You West Coast guys, always running aground... (just kidding) :D

Unfortunately you'll have to haul it out unless you can hold your breath long enuff to attach a puller and pop the prop off there....

Props can be usually repaired in a few days for quite a bit less than buying a new one... Might be a good idea t find a spare to reduce "down time".. Once you find the measurements, keep an eye out on e-bay.. Inboard props show up there quite frequently for cheap $$, if you know what to look for..

The props measurements are ususally stamped on the prop... You should see something like "17LH X 15" as an example... This would mean the propeller has a 17 inch diameter, LH is left hand rotation, and has a 15 inch pitch...

Good luck... :)
