I recently acquired a 2000 evinrude 4 stroke 9.9 long shaft for free. It had some easy fix issues but now is running 100%. It was on a pontoon and has a 4 blade 10 x 9 prop on it. Took it out to do a little testing yesterday and are not thrilled with the result. I have a 1989 16 foot deep V tracker and its a little heavier than stock as i've added a metal truck box livewell and used 3/4" flooring when i redid the floors. It has 3 batteries on board and a big trolling motor. I hit 6 mph yesterday at full throttle but was achieving 5 at half throttle. Seems like its creating alot of power and water is moving but just not shoving the boat. I thought id get 7 or 8 mph at least. Any recommendations to a new prop? Maybe a 3 blade.

Sounds like it's just too much boat for the motor. The difference between 1/2 throttle and full throttle is typical for an under sized motor. The prop you have may be closer to correct than you think.

Without an induction tach installed, you're dead. Need to tach that 9.9 with current 4 blade prop & current load, then work from there maximizing a prop that revs around full wot max revs which are ?

Happy Boating

I will see if i can get a tach on it. Thanks guys. I figured it has too much prop since it was on a pontoon.
