We have a 1977 Sylvan 24' pontoon that we just repowered with a 1983 Evinrude 50hp motor. The current prop is 11 3/4 x 17 and I'm getting 3500-3800rpm at WOT.

I know I need to get a different prop but wasn't sure if the "rules" were the same for pontoon boat props.

I need to get my RPMs up to 4500-5500, but I was wanting to aim for 5000.

Any suggestions, hints, thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Gary

I would try a 13 pitch in as large of diameter as you're motor will take. Don't think a 15 would do it. I'm a fan of stainless steel props and if you can find prop shop that will work with you till you find the right one thats a plus. It sounds like the 50 hp was off a lighter boat with that 17 pitch?

A 9, 11 and a 13 is a common pontoon pitch and no the normal rules do not apply to pontoons. And you will need a working tach to dial it in, a permanent one or one of the temp ones.

I'm thinking a 12x11 would be the best prop for your situation, a 12x13 will probably still lug a bit. The 12x11 will be on the high end of your rev range but that's better then being on the low end where a 13 will put you.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a tach so that's not an issue. Now to find a couple props to try.
