I tried spaying with Aerokroil and lettig it soak for days. I applied heat around the hub and tapped it. The prop will not budge. I'm afraid to hit it too hard. i don't want to band the shaft. What is the next step?

Re: Prop froze real good.

If you can run it in a barrel of water, I would loosen the prop nut a few turns, start her up and shift from forward to reverse at idle speed a couple of times and see if that will break it loose. Outside of that, it depends on whether you plan on keeping the prop. Might have to resort to cutting it off. But I believe with time and friendly persuasion, it will come off...More oil, more heat....

Worked on that mule of a prop to no avail. Tomorrow it is the last resort. I shall cut it off. It is ruined now. It used to be an old Michigan Match with no cup. Didn't want it anyway.

Re: Prop froze real good.

FINALLY!!!!! :) Got that darn prop off today. This is how I did it. Drilled three holes in side of the prop. Used a puller and pulled the prop right off the hub. Sprayed Kroil on the hub and the shaft at both ends and let it set for a few minutes. Place the puller behind the thrust washer and applied heat. Got it to move a little. kept repeating the pocedure until completed. Cleaned up the shaft whicch was easy probobly because it is stainless steal. Took a look inside the hub. It is terribly corroded. No wonder. going to use anti-sieze grease before I put new prop on. Ladies and geentlemen, Anti-sieze is the way to go because getting off a corroded prop is the most difficult job I have ever done on my boat

This is so true Bondo. I'm doing the steering wheel, too. I'm still a little sore today trying to get that prop off. And I remember the proper spelling of Old Town!
