Prop guestion

I just bought this boat last fall, and don't have the owners manul.

It is a "87" 17' Crestliner Nordic with a 70 hp Evinrude. I am wondering just how well I have it propped. It now has a 13 3/4" 19" pitch SST prop on it. It seems to run well and comes up on plane in a second or two and runs upto about 5200 to 5300 rpm at WOT. Does this seem about right. I have a 17 pitch that I had on for one outing, but all it did was run the RPM up and did not seem to have much speed response to throttle. I have read a few items in the forums that suggest running these outboards upto about 5800 rpm.

The other boat that I have had was an I/O so outboards are a little new to me.

Any suggestions would be a help.

Scott

Re: Prop guestion

You really need to get the owners manual for the motor. RPM sounds probably ok , a fin mounted on the motor would help lift if you dont have and proper trim is always important.

I believe you are in the correct rpm range (4500-5500). It should be specified on the port side of your motor where it bolts to the transom. You could go with a higher pitch prop (19")and get a little more top end (about 3 mph and you would run just about 4900-5000 which is perfect)but I would leave it where you are.
Mike
:)
