Hi,

I'd like to increase my top speed. Currently I'm barely getting up to plane (19mph) on my 15ft smokercraft aluminum (1000lbs gross). The recommended rpm is 5500-6000 and I'm at about 6000 rpm WOT on a 10 7/8 x 11" prop.

Through reading eariler posts, I found that I could go up to 2" to a 13" prop. However, after using mercury marines prop selector, it recommended that I should use a 10 1/8 x 15".

My question is can I really go up to a 15" and if so is this because of the smaller diameter? Or should I just go with a 13" ? I'd appreciate any opinions on this.

Thanks,
Sunny

You could trial run both props.Only a water test will confirm final results. The rest is ballpark.

As you're probably already aware, the 'Bigfoot' series of motor is more pontoon-oriented. The larger/deeper gearcase will cause more drag than a standard motor. You are powered for grunt, not speed. You can play with other props and most likely get a few more knots, but not as much as a comparable "normal" engine.
