Hello, I recently purchased a used 1996 Four Winns 170 Horizon DL Fish and Ski. It's equipped with a Johnson V4 130HP outboard.

The motor has a 4-blade composite prop sized 13.5 x 22

I think this is the OEM prop, I would like to purchase a new alluminum prop but not sure of what size I need. Or if the dimensions of the composite will be the same for alluminum. The boat will be used for cruising, fishing, and skiing. So a good all around prop would be desired.

I have yet to put it in the water, anyone have a guess as to what the top speed of this boat should be?

Thanks.

A composite 4 blade, will flex alot under load. The aluminum prop will do alot better. I personaly would be putting on a 17 or 19 pitch, and record your WOT RPM's, and get GPS speed. That motor should be running 5000 to 5500 rpms, but can run a bit higher without problems. Without any real numbers, its a guess. I take it you bought the boat without taking it for a ride on the water to make sure things were running right. I hope it works out for you, also most people here are not fans of composite props.

I agree a 17 or 19 but the best way is to get us the lightly loaded wot rpm and speed by gps.
Ball park for speed about 35-40.

Just a side not........everyone is talking about a 3 blade prop in 17-19. Those V-4 motors are great!!

I agree with you Bob....those motors are fantastic. That particular motor can and will spin many different props depending on the Hull design, load and intended use.

Ok, spent all day on the boat. LOVE IT!

got more data for you. She is very quick out of the hole, even pulling wakeboarder, or 4 person tube. Top speed with approximately 600lbs. of people on board was 43mph@5200rpm GPS verified. I am pleased with the top speed, but I would like more. But also don't want to sacrifice too much on the pulling power.

So any prop suggestions?
