prop hub spline

hi everyone!
I have a prop but the splines do not match my shaft..

my friend has a commercial press and feels he could press the hub out...

do u think its possible without damaging the prop

Yes, It is easy to do with a big enough press and six ton is more than sufficient. I press out OMC hubs and press in Force hubs all the time with a Harbor Freight press.

However, buy a new hub from HMS Hubs.com. Use the 70 Durometer hub for aluminum and the 80 Durometer for stainless. Press it in with soapy water for a lubricant. let it sit for a couple of days to set-up.

Use an appropriately sized tapered bearing as a press-in guide.

You didn't say what size engine or prop, but the hubs run about 20 bucks plus shipping. Pressing out doesn't take any special tools but you will need a taper to press in the new one. Yes, that is mine and for the 13 inch props I use an old lower unit forward gear bearing cup.

I forgot to mention: If your engine is an older Chrysler with an 18 spline prop shaft, you probably will not be able to swap hubs. There are limits as to what you can do, re-hubbing props.
