i have a 1978 pre alpha 19ft bowrider 165 hp inline six. i would like to identify what prop is on it but cant seem to find a # where should i look? also i noticed it is a lot larger than my alphe 1 gen 2. would the gen 2 work if it is the same pitch? even though it is smaller? thanks ken

Just because the pitch is the same does not mean the prop will perform the same. Even props with the same diameter and pitch but from different manufacturers generally do not perform the same. When dealing with different prop diameters and different manufacturers you are also dealing with a different prop design so install the correct prop. The prop part number or catalog number is usually stamped or cast into the hub of the prop and you need to remove the prop nut to see it. Some props have the diameter and pitch or part number stamped into the barrel of the prop between the blades. Use the iBoats propeller finder to get the correct prop and once you determine what pitch you have now, and once you make some wide open throttle test runs with an average load to make sure the engine is running at or very near the upper end of its rpm band.

To answer the followup question that is sure to come - Yes, if a prop fits on an alpha genII, than it will fit on an any alpha as well as the M, R, and other pre alphas.

As mentioned above however, just because it fits, doesn't mean it will "work".
