OK, here's my situation (has been discussed in other areas here at iBoats). I have a 1985 19' bowrider that I think weighs about 3200# or so, then add in 3-5 people usually (sometimes more, but usually me and the kids, wife maybe). So it's a very heavy boat for it's size, deep V. It had a 200hp Mercruiser 305 5.0L engine which was only able to swing a 17" prop to maybe 4200 rpm and about 40 mph WOT.

So, for no good reason, I repowered it with a used mid-90's 350 5.7L Vortec carbed engine - I think 280hp. I'll be testing it soon, can't wait! I have a 19" SS prop that I plan to use initially. The ID numbers on this prop are : 48-88440-19

Can anyone tell me what those mean? I assume the "19" is the pitch. Can you tell what make of prop this is by these codes? I see no other indication of what brand this prop is.

Lastly, if i want to try another SS prop at some point, either because the 19" isn't enough prop or it's just not a great prop, any brand suggestions that are mid-priced (not a $500 prop)? This is for general use - cruising, water sports, etc.

Re: Prop ID? Also prop suggestions if I need to change

OK, just to add one piece of info, I do have Smart Tabs installed, if that matters at all. It does keep bow rise down a lot out of the hole.

looking around a lot here at other 350 Mag engines on boats about the same weight as mine, it looks likely I'll be shopping for a 21" SS prop once I see how my 19" does. The boat is stern-heavy I'd say so maybe one that lifts the stern is better? any recommendations? I see lots of Quicksilver Laser II available on ebay - a decent prop for my boat?

That Prop Is For A Mercruiser V6 V8 ...no Doubt. That Is The Part Number For Quicksilver .

Wouldn't hurt to give us the make and model of boat.
Be sure your motor is well tuned and getting full throttle.
Get back to us with your Max rpm and speed.
Wouldn't worry about a specialty prop until you see your present performance.
You might consider a Turning point Hustler al. prop that delivers close to stainless performance.Changing material does figure in more variables but the Turning points do seem help overall performance. You could buy 2 for the cost of a stainless.

Did you keep the original outdrive? If you did, it is capable of handling the extra torque and horsepower of the 350? Are you sure you won't tear out the gears?

Even in autos, there is no comparison in between the 305 and the 350. 350 makes the 305 look sick.
